Recently I asked my son for a pen and noticed it advertised a new Pizza Parlour that had opened up in the area. I didn’t take a lot of notice until, a couple of weeks later, I had unexpected guests and needed to supply a meal. I rummaged around in the kitchen drawer, found the pen and telephoned the number on it to order a takeaway Pizza. I was very impressed with the standard of service and, indeed, the pizza but, without the pen, I would no doubt have rung another outlet.

When visiting Trade Shows and the like it is an excellent idea to carry a few promotional items about your person. Then if you recognise a would-be customer you can easily offer them such as a pen or a key ring and, of course, it helps to break the ice. It is also a good idea to hand out white papers or flyers that are relevant to the business. This serves to both educate and inform a potential client without being pushy. Often these papers are handed around within an organisation and then somebody will make a call for more information. Promotional items should give sufficient information to enable a would-be customer to contact you. Your business address, telephone number and web address should be easy to read.

Look for things that are not just unique but useful and represent your business well.
